News on the street

Just a couple of news items:

The winner of the Christmas Quiz was Andrew Hawkes with 100% score on the first part of the quiz (although we managed to slip some names past him in the story)! Congratulations to him and his prize will be arriving very shortly.

Also, to show that progress is being made with the High Street research, Katie has now put several spreadsheets on the Poole History online website (see www.poolehistory.org.uk). They are results of extracting and transcribing High Street entries from the census and from old directories so it should be possible to trace some of the history of different properties. They need to be treated with some caution because it is sometimes difficult to identify exact premises, particularly on the census.  More data will appear on the website soon.

To find the High Street spreadsheets on the website, type High Street History Project (or HSH) into the search box on the home page. If you want to check for particular names in one of the spreadsheets, click on Control and F and then type in the name of interest to find any references.
