Thanks to Ian Andrews who has supplied a list of royal visits to Poole over the years, I now know who the visitor was in January 1905! Apparently it was Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria and the widow of Henry of Battenberg who came to open a bazaar. She had the unenviable task of dancing attendance on her mother throughout her life but was the longest living of all the Queen’s children, dying in 1944 at the age of 87.
